What filter should I use with my HVAC system?

We recommend pleated filters that are a Merv 8 or above. A good test on a new filter is to add sugar to the top and shake it to determine how many particles are getting through that filter. This is a visual representation of the small particles getting into your air using that filter! These particles would also begin collecting on the coil of your system and end up causing bigger issues down the road. We even encourage an upgrade from the standard 1 inch filter to a 5 inch filter, catching even smaller particles in your air. These 5 inch filters start at Merv 16.
